For more than 25 years, the Hwy 80 Sale has occurred twice a year, in spring and fall, along historic Highway 80. During the sale, individuals and businesses along the almost 400-mile route set up shop for garage and yard sales. Advertised as the “biggest garage sale in America,” the Hwy 80 treasure hunt has participants in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

The five-state highway yard and garage sale is biannual with events scheduled each April and October. The route runs from Mesquite, Texas through Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi. The event was started by the East Texas Tourism Association, and Texas remains the most active participant in the garage sale.

Historic US 80 Hi-Way Sale Dates and Hours

Third weekends of April and October each year
Friday through Sunday, except when the sale falls on a holiday
April 2019 falls on Easter weekend, and event date has yet to be scheduled
October 2019 dates: October 18, 19, 20
Hours vary, but typically vendors are operating by 8 a.m. and operate until the evening

Shoppers are encouraged to stop and enjoy local cuisine, flea markets, and community events along the way. Check the Chamber of Commerce website in each individual state for more information on the sale and affiliated activities.

No admission is charged at any of the garage sales along the route. The yard sales are found at homes along the designated route, in fields and pastures, in business parking lots and anywhere else people can gather.
